| Description: |
Bill Lee's Santa Cruz yachts have been noted for the "Fast is Fun" style of sailing. The tag line rings true for this SC50 more so than any of the other 28 SC50's that were built. This SC50 was the last one built and is faster than her older sisters. Deception is unique in several ways: 1) the deck is 800 lbs lighter than all other SC50’s due to the use of carbon fiber and the use of an open transom, 2) the weight saved in the deck was then added back to the boat in ballast and 3) the mast was moved forward 9 inches providing significant performance gains going to weather without detracting in any way from the terrific downwind speed (20 kts). This yacht is absolutely TransPac ready.
Interestingly, if you want to race a long distance downwind destination race it may be less expensive to: purchase and resell a SC50 than it would be to charter one. And if you also want to win the race you should consider this SC50. Deception is turn key ready for long distance races - add personal gear, provisions, and don't forget to pickup your trophy after the race. Check out the article in the March 2008 Latitude 38 critiquing the Santa Cruz 50 and what a great value it is. |
