| Description: |
The MacGregor 65 is a well designed and built cruiser/racer. She was designed for speed and comfort. She can complete passages in half the time of ordinary cruising sailboats. She is very long compared to her beam and has a very low profile for reduced windage. She is cutter rigged carrying three sails, main, headsail and staysail. With the small yankee headsail total sail area is about 1,760 sq ft. With a genoa it would even greater. She is powered by a Mercury 150 HP turbocharged diesel, motors at over 10 knots and sails at 10-20 kts. She has a low aspect rig, (short mast, long boom), which in combination with her 32,000 lbs displacement, and 12,000 lb of lead ballast give her plenty of power and good stiff performance even in strong winds. Deck layout and equipment is uncomplicated. With her short fin with wing keel she has a very shallow draft for a vessel of this size of just 6 ft. And with the fin keel, 150 HP diesel, and feathering Max prop, she is very easily maneuvered. The present owners who are a couple bought her in 1999 and have used her to cruise the Caribbean annually. They like her speed, spaciousness, and comfort.
Her interior accomodations consist of galley, raised nav station, saloon, master cabin, crew cabin, forward cabin, two heads and large separate engine room. Headroom throughout the boat is 72-76", (galley 74', saloon 76"). Berths are all very good sized. The master has a walk around, queen size berth low headroom directly over the berth. The crew cabin has two single berths, (over & under). The forward berth is a large "V" berth. Berth lengths vary from "79-88", (master 79", crew 88", forward 80"). |
