| Description: |
1972 Ericson sloop converted to Tohatsu 9.8 hp electric start outboard power located in Stamford CT. With the fin keel and spade rudder, 2900 lbs of enclosed ballast, the Ericson 27 is an easy sailor, a well handling family cruiser well adapted for the novice yachtsman or a more discerning club sailor.
The traditional masthead rig with the 130% genoa on a roller furling gear makes for an easily handled boat well suited for light airs, but easily stepped down for the occasional more serious blows. She is a relatively stiff boat, dry in 20 knots wind and easily sailed upwind as well as down. The tiller mate auto pilot makes single handing this boat a breeze even in a seaway.
Originally built with an Atomic 4 gasoline engine, this boat has had the inboard removed and is modified for an outboard motor on an adjustable heavy duty bracket. No more fussing with the inboard engine and inherent mess in the cabin space, the reliable 9.8hp 4 stroke keeps all the engine mess and gasoline on deck and out of the way, while still maintaining the ease of electric starting and battery charging from the alternator.
The interior is the simple traditional Ericson style, probably the feature that has made these boats so popular with cruising families over the years. There are realistic berths for 5 adults between the forward cabin, saloon settees, and the pilot berth. The upholstery is attractive and in excellent condition. The saloon table has a drop leaf, or can fold against the bulkhead. There is a nicely functional galley are with a near centerline sink, traditional ice box as well as a 110 v refrigerator, and, or course a 2 burner alcohol stove. Grilling can be accomplished on deck on the rail mounted gas grill. The head is a simple Sani Pottie in a spacious enclosed cabin for privacy.
Recent upgrades include new, to code, wiring for the shore power and 110 v battery charger, as well as a new 20 gal freshwater tank.
This Ericson is built solid but there is plenty of room for cosmetics |
