21.5' Hunter 216

Description: 2006 Hunter 216 sailboat with trailer
This is a very nice boat that has been well maintained
Please continue reading ONLY if you have been looking for a Hunter 216, know what it is and want own one
I am the second owner. I sail her on Lake Fairview (here in town), on Lake Monroe in Sanford and occasionally off the west coast of Florida
The trailer has always been rinsed with fresh water after launching in salt water and dunked it in a near by lake before storing the boat (as well as running the motor for a few minutes while backed in lake water)

The standing rigging is in great conditions, along with the overall appearance of the boat

The running rigging was replaced beginning of 2014
The main is still crisp. All battens are fine. It has a small round reinforcing patch where the speeder meet.
UK Sailmakers of Miami serviced the main on april 2014 and made a taller bag to allow for the sail to fit with all battens in place ($175)

The sail cover is a recent purchase and is the original grey cover from North Sails ($350)

The roller furling jib sail has an upgraded diameter wire luff and has been, professionally cleaned, re-stitched, reinforced by the best in the business (www.sailcare.com). It feels great and is smooth going in and out of the drum ($350)

The jib has a custom protective sock and dedicated halyard ($150)

To make life easier and enhance performance a boom kicker and an upgraded boom vang were added at the time of purchase ($400)

The rudder blade is in good condition with a little Marine-Tex in the usual spots ;-)

it comes with an original North Sails bag purchased in december 2013 ($90)

Equipment: When I purchased the boat I noticed that the drum hosting the rudder blade was a bit loose and it did not rotate as smoothly as I wanted too
I contacted HUNTER and received instructions on how to remove, clean, reinforce, and reinstall the whole system. Two day delicate project
Additional SS hook rails were added down below to hang anything from lines to fenders. You just have to have hooks!
Speaking of hooks, I installed two push very nice SS pop-up cleats mid ship in June 2014. They make docking much easier and it's a sweet spot for a fender ($98)

For overnights, I built a very sturdy bunk out of 3/4" marine high grade ply in June 2014. It's approx. 7' long and sleeps two (tested with my first mate). It has a center brace and it is riveted to the sides The finish is a high glossy epoxy to completely waterproof the setup ($200 and two days)

Rebedded all standing rigging on April 2014
No worries, all the work was done with the outmost care using West Marine SS hardware, proper tools and 5200 on any hole.

The trailer is in good condition. All lights work. Tires look good… just a bit crinkly on the sidewalls. There is very little surface rust in the usual places. I changed all the bolts and nuts that looked "not so safe" with SS ones from West Marine ($45)

There are a few more, but cool little upgrades and storage bags for this and that.

I also spent a week sanding and painting the entire portion right under the cockpit with three coats of gray hi-grade epoxy paint. Now it can be used for storage without having many invisible tiny fiberglass splinters in your hands
It was the hell of job... one of those that you wish you never started, but you are happy when you are done ($75)

New Keel custom delrin bushing and 316 SS pins (keel & pulley) in June 2014 ($100 Machine Shop - $ 220 Marina Labor). This was not an easy task. As the entire system has to be hoisted from the topside while the boat is on the dry with the keel in the down position

All Hunter small boats up until 2011 develop small "line" cracks in the outer plastic shell which covers the entire vessel (the core is fiberglass) if not addressed, these cracks can be a serious issue (Please google it). I tended to the ones I noticed and looked like they should be taken care of. It's easy to do. Hunter eventually switched back to full fiberglass in 2011 adding some 400lbs. to this model... you do the math what that does to performance.

I recently installed a thru-hull fitting in the motor mount area to allow for an external gas tank to be mounted below deck. It works great and the tank, which is wedged under the cockpit, doesn't move even under the windiest conditions.

We can discuss the fine details after you show real interest and come check it out

On a final note, she is a blast to sail even in light winds and the very large cockpit makes it a joy to share the experience with friends and family.
