1979 Cape Dory 30 located in Massachusetts for sale

30' Cape Dory 30

Description: ********Update May 2015: Major price reduction to $19,000. "Pilgrim" is ready to go in the water and is just waiting for someone to come and sail her away, all spring prep work is complete. A certified Volvo mechanic has gone over the engine including adjusting the valves and putting in a new thermostat.

For sale is a 1979 Cape Dory in good shape and ready to sail away. Cape Dorys are known for being high quality boats that are a pleasure to own. This particular boat is the ketch model which is identical to the cutter in all ways except for the rig. The ketch is a very maneuverable rig which balances beautifully and makes the boat very fast on a reach as well as being extremely easy to singlehand thanks to the inherent balance and ease of heaving-to. The ketch is also the only Cape Dory in this size range which can carry an 8.5’ dinghy on deck which is a huge advantage. We are motivated sellers and would be excited to talk to anyone who might be interested in this boat.

Cape Dory has a wonderful owners association that includes information on the different models and a very active forum. The website can be found at www.capedory.org

At the bow of the boat, there is a nice sized V berth (a 6’4” person can stretch out). This area has 2 opening ports and a large overhead opening hatch for excellent airflow. In total, there are 8 opening portholes and 2 large overhead hatches that open. Aft of the V berth, there is a door which separates it from the head. The toilet is mounted to port and there is a hanging locker to starboard. The head is separated from the main saloon by another door. In the main saloon, there are settees on each side which convert to bunks for sleeping by flipping up the backrests to make them wider. The port settee pulls out to create a double berth if desired. All of the cushions have been recently replaced. On the starboard forward bulkhead, a Newport Dickinson stove provides heat for sailing in colder weather. There is a nice table which folds down from the bulkhead and comfortably seats 4-6 people. At the aft end of each settee, small folding tables have been added which flip up when desired. The aft end of the cabin is devoted to the galley which has a large icebox, a lot of storage and a two burner stove.
