For sale by owner - a 1978 Bombay Clipper '31. Coast Guard registered vessel. The BC 31's enjoy a great reputation as being well built, heavy, and comfortable - good characteristics for the sailor seeking a safe coastal cruiser. This particular one displaces 9400 pounds (including 3300 pounds ballast), draws three and a half feet, and can carry about 415 square feet of sail. Her auxiliary power is a 30 horsepower Westerbeke diesel, just rebuilt this summer. 60 gallon fuel tank was emptied and cleaned in June. She has wheel steering, with a mainsail, a working jib and a smaller storm sail. All sails are in excellent condition and were re-hanked and strenghtened last month. Two anchors (35 and 45) and 200 feet of chain will firmly hold her in place. A three month old Garmin GPS 441S with a new depthsounder is installed on the cockpit table. There are two enormous lazarettes, port and starboard in the cockpit, capable of carrying a full cruising sail inventory, and all those smaller things one always seem to need - tools, lifevests, an inflatable dinghy, buckets, and so forth. Inside she has all the features of a much bigger boat - a confortable head/shower area, refrigiration, a sea-going galley and an enormous saloon with enough storage to accomodate all of your books and food for two months. The head, faucets, and much of the wiring have been replaced recently.
I currently live on the boat and it is sailed two or three times a week. I only mention this to point out that unlike many other boats out there, this one is truly in sail-away condition. She has not been sitting somewhere unattended while the owner waits to sell her. She does not need critical work the owner has given up on doing. She would be quite ready to head out for the Keys tomorrow morning, or the Bahamas, for that matter. The newly rebuilt engine, excellent sails and new navigation equipment guarantee you will not have to worry about how the boat runs - your main concern is where the boat will go. |
