| Description: |
The Colgate 26, designed by Steve Colgate and naval architect Jim Taylor and built by Precision Boatworks in Palmetto, Florida, is a great sailing trainer, family daysailer, and one-design racer. It was designed specifically for Offshore Sailing School and is also used by U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, and Maine Maritime Academy as a training vessel. There are also one-design fleets in Marblehead, MA, Nyack, NY, Lake Champlain, and the Great Lakes; also does very well in PHRF races (168). As a family daysailor, it is stable and safe, with a large, self-bailing cockpit surrounded by hard lifelines, berths below for four, and plenty of storage space. It is incredibly stable and stiff with lots of get-up, even in light wind, making it a fun racer. |
