TIOGA was built to the very high specification at the Lie Nielsen yard (hull) and The Hinck-ley Company (fitting out) in Maine, USA for the than Hinckley yard manager Ti Hack. She is an exact replica of Herreshoff design No. 58 with some changes to her interior layout only.
She is of West System Wood / Epoxy construction. Hull is 1,5´´ total with 1/2´´ edged Cedar inner, 2 diagonal opposed 3/8´´ Cedar middle and 1/2´´ Honduras Mahogany outer layer – all screwed and glued. Laminated Oak ribs. Backbone, floors and keel are of Long Leaf Yellow Pine. Clamp, deck beams and houses are laminated Ash. Decks are Teak over 2 layers ply set in epoxy and 1/2´´ coved Cedar as deck heads. Cabin top is Alaskan Yellow Cedar with 2 layers ply set in epoxy and glass covered. Lead ballast approx. 8 tons. Bronze Edson worm gear Steering. |
