"Bali Ha'i" is a cruise-ready 1989 Pearson 31-2 recently back from a 7-month Bahamian sailing adventure. The Pearson name speaks for itself but I will reiterate her abilities anyway. This William Shaw design has a long standing reputation for quality of construction and performance. Her wing keel keeps her draft a shallow 4ft, ideal for racing/cruising the St John's River where she sits or even back to the waters of the Bahamas...

We purchased Bali Ha'i in Tom's River NJ where she had been kept her entire life up until that point, but you could tell by looking at her that she was made for more than just a few romps up and down that river. We had her standing rigging and keel-stepped mast completely dropped and professionally inspected. We had a spreader replaced as well as some of the standing rigging. We also went about replacing much of the running rigging (all led aft for singlehanding) and equipped a brand new (made in the US of A) mainsail. On the rails she comes with a MAGMA grill (where many a chicken thigh and snapper fillet were prepared), rod-holder, custom made Starboard outboard motor mount, and a horse-shoe USCG compliant throwable PFD. To power her electrical needs we installed a 100watt semi-flexible solar panel to the bimini top which proved overly capable of charging the two new Gr-31 batteries and 2000w inverter, enough to juice some power tools and a small hair dryer. The solar was also really nice underway as it had little issue keeping up with the autopilot. For ground tackle we equipped her with a 44lb rocna 75ft of chain, which is more likely to rip the entire bow of the boat off before it lets Bali Ha'i drag. Without exaggeration, Bahamian cold fronts up to 50kt winds at times were no match. Also of note is that the head is a brand new Groco, we did replace it with the plastic Jabsco junk.

The bottom-line is we lived on this boat full-time for nearly a year, on and off the grid, so nothing has ever been left neglected or ignored.
