Scorpio is a Tom Wylie designed custom aluminum sloop built in 1992 and by renowned builder James Betts in Truckee from high-grade #5086 marine-grade aluminum. For a boat of its age, Scorpio enjoys an unparalleled race record. The deck is Kevlar over a Divinycell one inch core. Since her launch , the boat has been raced, significantly upgraded and professionally maintained. After a Pacific Cup in 1998, the boat underwent a major overhaul in 2000 when it was completely stripped and painted deck, top, and bottom sides. A new boom was built by Ian Klitza Metals in 1998, a new deeper, lightweight rudder with a carbon shaft was designed by Wylie and build by Advanced Composites (Malcolm Park), and a new three spreader aluminum mast and standing rigging was provided by Ballenger Spars all just prior to the 2002 Pacific Cup. Scorpio also participated in the 2004 Pacific Cup to Hawaii, and several recent Big Boat Series (1st in Class), etc.Numerous upgrades and equipment have been added since including all new Carbon sails. Yanmar diesel auxiliary runs excellent, quiet and smooth.
This boat was a recent donation to an educational sailing organization that will offer the boat on a charter sale to experienced racing sailor or group. Has several sets of sails, ocean racing gear , new B & G instruments and many other extras.
