Description: |
Charisma is a 55 ‘, cutter rig sloop designed by Bruce King. This is Hull #1 which was built as an all-out racing boat in 1968 for a Mr. Jesse Phillips, under the then current CCA rule. Hence the beautiful overhangs. The Hull has a full keel with a draft of 6’6” and a retractable centerboard with a maximal depth of 11’. The Hull is solid fiberglass, pre oil crises (no blisters), with the deck being wood under fiberglass. The cockpit is large with a full width bench in the back and 4 big lockers. The deck has 3 large hatches and 4 SS hatches, with some additional storage lockers. After a short life as a racing boat Charisma was bought by Ted Kennedy (Senator, MA) and was kept in the Caribbean, mostly in the British Virgin Islands. Charisma was sold in the late 1980’s, but stayed in the BVI’s. During this time she went through a total refit. In 1998, the current owner bought it and sailed it to the long Island Sound, where it is today. Sails are in very good shape: Main, 150% Jib, Staysail, Asymmetric Spinnaker with sock and storm sails. The Diesel engine, from Yanmar with 100 Hp, turbo charged is new. It was installed in August of 2015. It has white dodgers and a Bimini, and a 6 person offshore life raft is included The current owner just came back from a cruise to RI and MA. Charisma is in sail-away condition. The current owner has started to update the interior and the project continues. |
