Description: Truly, a unique boat, "Dawn Treader" is a home built cutter rigged sailboat that is an Edward S. Brewer design. The design was available in two versions, as a flush deck or a trunk cabin which was called the MB&S 35 as it had a shorter overall length than the flush deck. The MB&S 35 was designed to provide the amateur builder with a modern, high performance and seaworthy cruiser available as a stock plan. Construction is of strip planking on bulkhead framing and the hull is vectra sheathed for low maintenance. Alternate construction is of heavy fiberglass over an integral light wood skin. This method eliminates the heavy keel timbers of the more traditional wood construction, replacing it with a thick fiberglass covered plywood. The layout provides berths for 5-8 in 3 separate cabins but she is really intended as a live-aboard distance cruiser for two persons with occasional guests. The large galley, separate navigation area, and general privacy and comfort are rarely found on yachts of this size and displacement. The cutter rig is fitted for its general handiness and the mast is strongly stayed with running backstays and forestay providing additional support.

Equipment: This particular boat was built by a Hixson, Tennessee resident who spent over a decade hand building the boat in his back yard. Dawn Treader was launched in 1987 (perhaps 1986) and was rigged up and sailed locally until the early 1990's when it was brought down river to Orange Beach, Alabama where it remained for a few years or so. The builder/owner of the boat actually road out Hurricane Opal in Mobile Bay in 1995 and suffered no damage. The boat returned to Sale Creek in the summer of 1999 and has been moored here since. This is an excellent boat for someone with cruising aspirations, spacious, and solidly built! The diesel engine is a Vetus M3-10, 3 cylinder, 20 horsepower and runs smooth. Three sails (mainsail, staysail, and the hank on genoa were made by Fred A. Bremen and Sons and are all quite serviceable. Hull sides were painted professionally in the summer of 2017 with Awlgrip. The deck was also repainted in 2017 by family members with Interlux Brightside Polyurethane. There is a 30A AC shore power system with 2 cords (1 spare). and the DC system consists of two Group 24 marine batteries (replaced in 2017) and a battery selector switch. Fresh water and holding tanks, marine head, dinette table, fore and aft cabins. This boat is ready to use and sail now and yet has potential for upgrades - customize to your liking! All original design blueprints along with all receipts and invoices for construction materials and fittings are included.
