Description: I originally saw the boat listed on Craigslist by Murrelles Marina in West Palm Beach, FL. The former owner had quit paying the storage fee some time in 2016 and simply never appeared again. The marina spent over a year trying to get in touch with him and after giving up they had to then go thru legal proceedings in order to get the boat titled in their name in order to be able to sell it. A refit was begun by the former owner Mr. Luke aka Captain Greybeard on the Cruiser Forums. I do not know much about him except for his blogs on the Cruiser Forums, which I found before I bought the boat. Most all of the difficult work had been done by the former owner such as replacing the black lron fuel tanks (which are notorious for rusting) with custom made aluminum tanks. This involved quite a bit of tearing out and carpentry work. He also re-plumbed the fuel lines with a dual Racor system which could easily changed from one tank to the other. He also installed 8 new Trojan 6v batteries and built an beautiful holding box under the aft cabin bunk rewiring all of it with new cable and switches. At the same time he removed the old Yanmar 4JHE 40hp and install a brand new4JH5E Yanmar 54hp. The installation of the engine alone cost $20k. A new 3" exhaust system had to be installed in place of the 2" along with a big new water muffler etc. He bought a brand new force 10 stove and installed it.A new cutlass bearing with a new dripless stuffing box had been installed including a new Max Prop feathering prop. Also a brand new Simrad auto pilot (hydraulic) that had been installed for over $7K usd. Inside the boat is sitting a brand new Marine AC unit which he was in the process of installing but it is still unfinished, also a brand new 10gal Isotherm hot water heater

Equipment: After I bought the boat in West Palm Beach I spent a month and a half there having the teak decks removed and fiber-glassed/painted over for strength. I also had to spend $1500 usd with the folks who had installed the new engine/transmission in order to finalize all of the connections and crank the engine for the first time including a test run in the water. I also bought a $1000 usd new Natures Head Composting head and had the old thru-hull glassed over. I also hired a professional marine electrician who went thru the DC wiring and fixed/replaced a lot of wiring including installing a $2300usd Outback 2500w inverter. I spent approx $8K with him. All in all I spent roughly $16K on the boat while in West Palm Beach. I estimated at the time of purchase that I would need to spend about $18K for new sails, cushions, and bimini/dodger. I got a firm quote from Far East Sails of $6K for all three sails brand new with the original Tayana Logo....higher quality than from sail makers in FL for more money. I have met some great folks here at the yard who can get things done much cheaper such as the local rigger, who says I could buy new sails for approx $2500 usd by using a sailmaker friend of his who got a ton of sails for almost nothing from all the hurricane boats. I also found a lady who does cushions and will provide the labor, as much or little, as needed for much less than a big Canvas Shop in Jacksonville, FL. I figure that a handy DIY person could probably get buy with spending another $20-25K to finish her off and head off for the Bahamas. I am negotiable on price.
