38' Custom Atkin Ingrid 38 Cutter

Description: 976 William Atkin Ingrid Cutter Maitreya. Maitreya was custom built to the highest standards in San Francisco in the early '70s. She is meant as a simple reliable offshore cruising boat set up for a crew of two to four. She has sailed to Polynesia, Alaska, Hawaii and Mexico. The boat is 38 feet on deck and 45 feet overall with the bowsprit with an 11 foot beam.

The hull is ferro-cement and the deck, and house are built of wood. The cabin is Port Orford cedar with ash deck beams and mahogany trim. The boat looks and feels like a wooden vessel befitting it's classic 1934 design, yet has none of the maintenance issues associated with a planked hull. This boat is extremely dry and odor free. The Ingrid design is notable as one of the most comfortable and stable of all offshore boats. The cutter rig was designed in by Bill Crealock in the 1970's and provides an easily configurable sail plan for use in all weather conditions.

We are the second owners. The owner/builders cruised and live onboard for about 30 years.

Currently lying in Chula Vista Marina in San Diego Bay.
