Freebirds were designed to take to the oceans with space, grace and pace with home comforts for a full time live aboard adventure. Under her twin Yanmar engines she will cruise at 6 knots, under sail she is capable of 15 knots with full cruising and live aboard gear. She is capable of sailing to within 35 to 40 degrees of the apparent wind.
The spacious saloon is fitted out in sycamore with ash trim. It has a large dining table with extension, a full size navigation table and a love seat. The teak & holly floor is covered with industrial quality carpet tiles. Four private staterooms, 2 queens and 2 doubles are fitted out in bird's eye maple. A large galley with loads of counter space in Corian. Double sink, 3 burner gas hob, gas oven & electric oven, microwave oven, front opening fridge with freezer plus a separate front opening freezer. Lots of cupboards and storage space throughout the boat. A shower and toilet is off the main queen cabin port and the other shower and toilet is in the starboard hull just down from the saloon. Both with new wash basins & lever mixer taps. The laundry has an automatic washing machine and sink. The workshop has a work bench and storage. Each engine is in a separate compartments accessed by a deck hatch. A Lombardini 5 Kw generator is in the port engine room.
Freebird catamarans were designed by Toby Richardson in the UK, a highly experienced blue water sailor and designer, drawing on experience from a circumnavigation and ocean racing in catamarans. Stress analysis of the design was assessed and perfected by Martyn Smith, one of British Aerospace's top structural engineers.
The Freebird Catamaran Company of Littlehampton fitted out the interior for the 1993 Southampton Boat Show where she won the 'Boat of the Show Award'.
