1982 Herreshoff Cat-Ketch 31 - "Doris"
I really took the effort of making a description which is as accurate as possible and giving all the information I am thinking of.
Please contact me after having carefully read this description and you will be welcome ta ask any remaining question about the boat and the deal. Thank you!
The boat is in the Ft. Myers area and I am in Austria (I am Austrian). I plan to come over to Florida for the deal in Feb. But I also have good friends (sailors) in Ft. Myers who can show you the boat make the deal for me.
For the meanwhile I would like to ask you to drop me an eamil and we can make an VOIP (skype, gmail. etc.) phone call any time.
The boat is a US Coast Guard documented Vessel.
I sailed Doris for about 7 months within the last 2 years. In and across Florida as well as in the Golf and Caribbean. She proved to be a good and reliable boat and sailing her was a joy.
A cat-ketch is a boat with 2 masts. The main mast is in the very front of the boat, like a cat boat, and the mizzen is in the middle and almost as tall as the main. This splits the sail area into two highly manageable sails
This might come in handy if you are single-handing.
The masts are made of carbon fiber strong enough not to need stays and flexible enough to spill wind to increase stability in heavy winds. Semi-wishbone booms allow those booms to be higher on the masts, keeping the mizzen boom well above the cockpit. The triangle of sail below the boom functions as the vang, and further de-stresses the rig. Together, the un-stayed masts and semi-wishbone booms make tacking, even a jibe, a piece of cake. Just put the tiller over and the sail follows suit. No frantic pulling of lines is required. Its the easiest boat to sail Ive ever been on.
