Owner's Comments:
I had read some comments online about the centerboard problems with the Morgan 24s after so many years of use. I began repairs by milling out the rusted structure securing the pin of the lifting cable. I epoxied two 1/4" plates on either side of the board and drilled for the pin in the original location. The hole for the pivot pin of the centerboard was originally a simple hole drilled through which rounded out and allowed a crack to develop. I enlarged the hole and reinforced it with fiberglass/epoxy, then resized it to the pin. I also reinforced the edge of the board with a couple layers of triaxial glass/epoxy. The bronze pivot pin was still in good shape.

I filled and faired the entire board to get a true hydrodynamically smooth foil shape. Lastly, I put a couple coats of VC 17 on before reinstalling.

I was not happy with the location of the crank to operate the centerboard because the mainsheet traveler interfered with it, so I moved it forward where it was also easier to reach from the helm position. I also recessed the lever used to disengage the crank to lower the board so it could not be accidentally lifted. The centerboard lifts and lowers easily and never knocks around when up or down. If you never used it, you would forget it's there.
