Melange specs and equipment list
Melange is a HOOD 38 built by Henry Wauquiez in Mouvaux, France in 1985. I am the original owner and except for the last few years she has been on the great Lakes in Michigan.
Length 38, Length waterline 31, Beam 119, Draft centerboard up 46, centerboard down 108, Displacement 22.046 lbs. Ballast 11,023 lbs. Fuel 39 US gallons, Water 105 US gallons, 7 berths in 3 separate cabins, headroom saloon 6'6, forward cabin 6'4

This boat is extensively equipped and has had many upgrades. There are 2 wheels, one stainless and one teak. The mast is tapered and Martec rod rigging has been added to replace cable standing rigging; the baby stay is equipped with a quick release lever, and the Genoa cars have been replaced with Harkin adjustable cars, whose control lines are led to the cockpit. A ridged vang has been added to the boom. The main traveler has been replaced with a Harkin adjustable system; the genoa is on a Harkin roller furling system. The bow anchor roller has been extended and has a tack point ahead of the forestay for the Asymmetrical spinnakers and keeps the anchor out away from the hull. There is an adjustable backstay that is operated by a winch handle. The anchor is a Lewmar Delta quick set with 150 of 3/8 BBB chain with an auxiliary anchor with line with a chain leader. It also has a manual windless.
Sails: The Sail inventory consists of two main sails, one being a Dacron standard sail and the other a newer Quantum composite main with full roach and batons. The 155% Genoa is a newer Quantum composite racing sail never flown in Florida, there is a Yankee cruising sail, a 130 % Dacron Genoa , a staysail, a Storm jib, a Heavy air spinnaker, a reaching Asymmetrical spinnaker and running Asymmetrical.
Winches: Two primary self-tailing winches, new. Two secondary self-tailing winches. A self-tailing halyard winch. A self-tailing main sheet winch, and two non-self-tailing halyard winches. All lines lead to Lewmar lever cam cleats in the cockpit. Halyards and control lines are let through ten spinlock rope clutches, leading to the cockpit.
Propeller: The propeller has been replaced with a new Auto Stream stainless steel three blade feathering propeller.
Electronics: The electronics consist of a full set of Brooks and Gatehouse sail monitoring gauges, including two B&G Zeus 7 multi-functional displays, one installed in a pod mounted in a custom binnacle guard. She has an AIS transponder system, a B&G fluxgate compass, an Icom VHF radio with a remote mic at the helm station, and a Sirius radio antenna integrated into the system. A sound hub (Fusion) entertainment system (which accepts an Ipod) with Polk audio speakers below and waterproof box speakers in the cockpit. There is a B&G hydraulic electric ram below deck auto pilot linked to a Simrad control system. The refrigeration system was replaced with a high efficiency Isotherm cold plate system. The hot water tank was replaced also. There is a new master volt battery charging system and 3 new AGM batteries. The boat is cooled by a 16000 btu Webasto A/C system. We have added a Bimini and custom dinghy davits off the stern made by Kato industries. The boat comes with two sets of dock lines, spare halyards and all the necessary running rigging and lines including snatch blocks and 5 winch handles. There is an Avon 8 man sea survival life raft and many assorted spare parts as well. There is a life sling and horseshoe throw able as well as a full set of fenders.
The boat is all fiberglass construction with a teak deck and grain matched teak interior with a teak and holly cabin sole. Price $85,000 USD.
There is a 106 RIB dinghy with a 9.9 Yamaha 4 stroke motor sold separately that is fitted to the Kato davits. The dinghy also comes with a small boat trailer and a cover as well as a storage bag
