38' Downeast Downeast 38

1979 Downeaster 38 cutter. Lovingly cared for and cruised by same family for 46 years! She has been to Tahiti and back to California TWICE. Plus done extensive cruising in Mexico and the Channel Islands. Great sailing characteristics, very big interior for a 38ft boat, legendary American-made build quality, several recent upgrades, lots of great gear/equipment included. If you want a solid boat to go cruising to Mexico or South Pacific, sailboat to liveaboard or just a beautiful boat to sail around San Diego Bay this can do it all.

Rigging - full standing rigging, mast and boom refit done by SD Boatworks (2023)

- Innovative halyard lock system to declutter the base of the mast

4 new West Marine AGM Group 31 batteries (420Ah) and 60 amp Pro Mariner charger in March 2024

New bowsprit and teak Samson posts in 2023 and bulkhead reinforcement. Solid teak walkways have been built but not fitted. A BRAND NEW 2023 Maxwell electric windlass is included but not yet installed.

New cooling hoses, heat exchanger, water pump, Racor filter, fuel lines, fuel bleeder screw (2021-2023)

New headliner and windows fitted in 2018. She is a very dry boat.

When you're on the boat you can feel how solidly built it is. There are a lot of sailboats out that look cool, but after you spend more than one day on them you realize how uncomfortable they actually are. Everything about this boat is comfortable. The full keel for stable sailing, spacious cockpit, big roomy interior, high headroom, plenty of deck space, easy access to diesel.
