Description: |
We are selling our beloved UK-registered Czarina Blue, asking 59,000, currently equivalent to US$79,000 or NZD$133,000 ONO. Shes on the hard in Whangarei, NZ
A Nicholson 38 ketch, shes a fine example of this well-respected brand, designed by John Alden and hand-built 1973 by renowned Camper and Nicholson of Gosport, UK, hull #110, built to Lloyds survey standard and known for build quality, sea-keeping, and beautiful lines. The yachts condition shows the attention we have invested over the last eight years whilst living aboard.
A ketch with a strong stiff hull, encapsulated long keel, keel-hung rudder, and protected prop. A recognised blue water passage-maker, and easily sailed short-handed, extensively single-handed by me, with many redundancies for voyaging.
After a previous life in the Med, she underwent a significant refit in 2017 towards being a blue-water live-aboard: re-rigged, new chain plates / lifelines / sails / thru-hulls / seacocks / anchor and chain, hatches overhauled and reglazed, new gas system & stove / mains RCD / renewable energy systems, with all amenities, navigation and safety gear thoroughly modernised, davits for the wooden clinker-built skiff that motors and sails. She has crossed oceans and been a much-loved home to us for the last eight years whilst voyaging from Greece to New Zealand.
During our voyage, continual improvements have been made: Quantum slab-reefing mainsail and Webasto heating system 2018, Hydrovane wind-steering system 2020, and windows resealed. In 2021, the hull was peeled / epoxied, barrier-coated, the rudder removed and rebuilt / bearings replaced, the prop shaft skimmed with new bearing, the aft steering system over-hauled, adding also a jordan series drogue / dedicated chain plates, Schenker watermaker, Foruno radar, cockpit roof skylights. 2022 the Perkins engine entirely rebuilt. Extensive re-wiring. Many spare parts following her Pacific crossing 2024-25. She is completely liveaboard ready. Recent Webasto service, new raw water pump, topsides repainted, revarnished rail, fresh antifouling, propspeed |
