Mi Velero is a beautifully maintained and extensively updated 1985 Hans Christian 33T Traditional, built by the Hansa yard in Taiwan. Designed by Harwood Ives, the 33T combines the security and construction of a serious offshore cruiser with a warm, surprisingly spacious interior that also works exceptionally well for open water cruising, extended stays aboard and comfortable weekends at anchor. Her full keel, protected rudder, cutter rig, heavy fiberglass construction, high bulwarks and compact offshore cockpit give her the reassuring feel for which Hans Christian yachts are known. At the same time, her manageable size, approximately 5'6" draft and versatile sail plan make her practical for exploring. Unlike many traditionally built cruisers of her age, Mi Velero has already received several of the expensive upgrades buyers commonly face after purchase. Most significantly, she was recently repowered with a Beta Marine 35 diesel, accompanied by a thorough renewal of the supporting propulsion and fuel systems. Work included fuel-tank inspection and cleaning, new hoses, filters and waterlift muffler. A high-output Balmar alternator complements the installation. Navigation equipment has also been comprehensively modernized around an integrated Raymarine/NMEA network, including radar, AIS, multifunction display, wind and instrument data. For longer passages, Mi Velero is additionally equipped with below-deck autopilot, Icom SSB and a Cape Horn windvane. Below deck, the extensive teak and mahogany joinery gives Mi Velero the classic character that has made Hans Christian yachts enduringly desirable. Her accommodations include a forward Pullman berth, private aft quarter berth, U-shaped salon, navigation station, functional galley and enclosed head. Abundant tankage and storage make her suitable for extended cruising, while the Dickinson heater makes her particularly comfortable in the cooler seasons. |
