Description: |
This is our Bristol 22 Caravel "Peaceful Respite" (Sounds like a cemetary, doesn't it?) We didn't name her, but we sure have enjoyed her! We've taken several weekend trips with our dogs, including two trips to "the islands" and she has performed flawlessly. The Bristol Caravel is a Halsey Herreshoff design, which means she is roomy, fast, low maintenance and seaworthy.
She is being sold without a motor and without a trailer. She is on the hard in Chatham, Ohio. The buyer will be responsible for pick up and transport. The ideal buyer will be someone who loves sailing and can sail her to her new home port. If she will stay on Lake Erie, we will consider sailing her to her new home.
You can learn more about the Bristol 22 (and all the Bristol line) at http://www.bristolowners.org/boats.html. There is also a web site devoted strictly to the Bristol 22 at http://bristol22.com/A_Website_Devoted_to_Bristol_22s/A_Website_Devoted_to_Bristol_22s.html\.
The Bristol 22 is very seaworthy. Several years ago a young man sailed a Bristol 22 single handed from the US west coast to Australia and back.
You can see three videos on Youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgH4rgcmPnU&feature=related, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JY2qm14F8fs and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhwYHFZF-G4&feature=related we took sailing on Lake Erie, one in a sea state many boats avoided, but she handled it with ease.
We hate to get rid of her, but she has a Bristol 24 big sister and we can't keep two sailboats. We're hoping she goes to someone who enjoys sailing as much as we do.
Feel free to change her name if you win her. |
Equipment: |
She is fully equipped, including sails (one main and two jibs), VHF radio, compass, two fenders, electric bilge pump, 12 volt battery, interior lights and running lights, DC outlet, porta-potty, cabin cushions (no cockpit cushions), two PFD's, anchor, paddle, boat hook, deck scrub brush and mooring lines.
We added stainless steel stanchions and lifelines, curtains on all ports, hardwood hand holds in the companionway door, new carpet in the cabin and a pneumatic piston inside the base of the mast to help with raising and lowering. We replaced all the port and starboard chainplate bolts with stainless steel. |
