Description:
CAL 25 MK II – 1980 – “CRAZY LADY” - Same owner since 1984, sailed only in Lake Michigan since new. This is probably the nicest CAL 25 you can find, anywhere. I went on the maiden voyage in May 1980 and purchased it from the first owner in August of 1984 and I have been the proud owner ever since. This boat has many great features and upgrades you are not likely to find on any similar boats. This boat has been meticulously maintained by a loving owner (engineer) who hates to let it go.

There are several new teak pieces that have never been installed. I have all receipts and records including the original sales brochure.

Basics: This is a “big” 25 foot boat, with an 9 foot beam, standing headroom, and 4’6” of fixed keel draft and spade rudder. With a large V-berth, two settees, and a quarter-berth it can sleep 4 comfortably or 5 “very close friends”. Two sinks, port-a-pot head (ready for full set up), ice box, and pump water system that makes this a very comfortable cruiser. It’s a tiller boat which is typical of a boat this size.

The deck layout is set up for single handing, with both the main sail and headsail winches on the top deck. There are two sets of aft winches with primary two-speeds lifted off a Bavaria 33. The single speeds are perfect for a spinnaker!

In 1998, New UK sails were installed with a Pro-Furl roller-furling system and new weather helm traveler. The same year, Raytheon instruments with self-steering system were installed. The boat has a spinnaker pole and some spinnaker rigging, but no spinnaker. However, there is a hand made “flasher” that hasn’t been sailed in about 15 years.

1999 - New upholstery & cushions.

Equipment:
In 2005, I had the keel reinforced, which is an Achilles heal to most CAL hulls of this vintage. Below the waterline, this hull has been treated annually with VC-17 for as long as I can remember, From toe-rail to waterline, she looks almost new, being treated each year with West Marine color restorer, cleaner wax, and polish every year.

Probably the most important feature is the engine. In 2006, I replaced the original OMC-Sail drive with a SAILDRIVE 380, which has a 4 stroke 15 H.P. Honda power head with a Volvo Penta lower unit with folding propeller. Keep it lubed with fresh oil and it is bullet proof!

2009 - New Vang, backstay, main and jib sheets.

What does it need?

A good clean wax job and bottom paint (new can of VC-17 comes with the boat)
New batteries
Bilge pump repair
H2O system work
Exterior teak trim installation
Fixed Window Seal Replacement
Some interior trim replenishment (pieces are there)
Lifeline replacement
Starboard Opening Port Installation (I have the window).

It’s all there! Anchor, shore power, back stay adjuster, life jackets, extra hardware, dozens of other extras, and all the stuff you need for a great boat for club racing or cruising. If you want to race it, the PRF is 220.
