Description: |
Carillon is a boat of significance and pedigree. She is a custom aluminum 48-foot yawl designed by Sparkman & Stephens and built by Derecktor in 1964. She was designed for the Bermuda race, and she won her class (B) in the 64 Bermuda race, 3rd overall, and went on to win several other offshore races. Originally a full keel sloop, in 67 S&S redesigned her underbody to separate her rudder as had been done with the innovative Intrepid, and in 68 she was converted to a yawl. All work was performed by Derecktor. The boat is well documented with original plans from S&S, original building requirements by S&S as well as the yard construction logs from Derecktor. The hull is aluminum. The deck is teak and the interior is beautiful Birds eye maple. Well over half her life has been spent out of the water. After decades in a shed, I purchased Carillon in 2016, and put her in the water in 2017. She spent 3 seasons in the water with minimal sailing, and she has been back on the hard since 2020. She sails magnificently, beautifully balanced. Life has changed, and not in a good way, and being her caretaker is becoming increasingly difficult. She now needs a new caretaker.
