36' Hinterhoeller Nonsuch 36

Designer Mark Ellis brilliance is evident in the Nonsuch series of cruising sailboats. The benefits of the catboat style hull and freestanding mast with wishbone boom include form stability, long waterline, hull volume, and shoal draft. Generous beam carried well aft keeps these boats upright when sailing to windward without a deep keel. Sailing a Nonsuch, one quickly realizes that performance is far better than expected for such a comfortable boat due to the long waterline, spade rudder, and sail area. The unstayed mast and single sail are simple to manage and maintain. All lines are led to the cockpit. The mainsail drops into a line/bag cradle suspended from the boom. The Nonsuch 36 is the flagship of the Nonsuch fleet.

Hinterhoeller Yachts of St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada did a superb job building the Nonsuch 36. Quality materials are used throughout including beautiful solid and veneer teak interior joinery, Marelon through hull valves, and Atkins & Hoyle ports and hatches. A judicious marriage of fiberglass moldings and wood are used for structure, form, function, and aesthetics. Thoughtful design and construction details explain the graceful aging of older Nonsuch boats. An appreciative owners group readily shares resources and information.
