49' Stone Boatyard San Francisco Phil Rhodes

For sale: 1949 Phil Rhodes double headed sloop. Built 1955 by the Stone Yard in San Francisco for Tom Short, then commadore of St. Francis Yacht Club, original name, Tasco II. 489 on deck, 12 beam, 76 draft. Center cockpit with aft cabin. I owned the boat in the 80s. The person I sold it to did a few trips. Around 2005 he took the boat out of the water, built a shed over it, stripped the hull to bare wood, faired it and double diagonal striped planked the hull with West Systems epoxy and fiberglassed. He was a master boatwright and knew what he was doing. The hull is as fair as any glass hulled boat. The decks were teak and got the same treatment. Everything is watertight. He added life to this old boat. After he sold the boat it went through two owners and was neglected in the process. I bought the boat in November 2024 and went through everything. Completely painted the inside, new Raritan toilet and plumbing, Starlink II, covers anything, Hummingbird depth finder, new handheld VHF radio, 3000 wt. homkeep inverter, new 80 batter for 12v systems. Engine is Perkins 4-236 with new injector pump, new injectors, new raw water pump, new starter. Much time and money spent getting the engine running right. 8 fiberglass dingy that will hold 3 adults. Much safety gear. 6 harness new ACR epirb, two life jackets with personal epirbs, much fishing gear for trowling, line, landers, lures, etc.
Boat carries 100 gal. fuel in two tanks in engine room. Engine room is large enough to get to both sides of engine. Sails are Yankee, staysail, 125 Genoa, flying jib, tow mains. Main on boom is older sail of very heavy material but good enough. Ground tackle 15, 100 3/8 high test chain with 150 3/4 line and 65 lb plow anchor. Extra 200 ft 3/8 high test chain with what I think is 100 of 1 line. Also extra 3 line inlocker of about 150. Lots of extra line for sheets ect. 100 gal. water tank under floor midship and 9 5 gal. water jugs. Boat was hauled at Ventura boatyard in January 2025. Bottom done, iron ballast sandblasted and encapsulated. One thruhull changed, all sea cock
