Due to life changes we are looking for a new owner for our beloved Skye 51. She is a beast of a bluewater boat built to cross oceans quickly and comfortably (average 160 to 175 mile days easily). Designed by Kauffman and Ladd and a close relative to John Kretschmers Quetzal she was built in 1981. She is a flush decked ketch rig with inner Forestay for when the weather kicks up and features an elongated fin keel and skeg hung rudder with a super fine entry forward. No pounding upwind on this boat! She is coming off of a major refit period and has been thoroughly shaken down over the last 5 months. Two gales on the way to Bermuda this fall and a season cruising the Caribbean (around 4000 miles total) has proved her robust construction and systems. She is truly a turnkey vessel and ready to continue cruising the world.
Some of the notable upgrades include new standing rigging (including chainplates), rebuilt mast step, new transmission, recently factory rebuilt engine, new sails, rebuilt hydraulic autopilot, new steering cable and sprocket, new seacocks and Thruhulls, two new fuel tanks, new Furuno radar, rewired mast and a myriad of other projects. The teak deck has been replaced since the original and is glued down with no fasteners penetrating into the foam cored deck. There are a few cosmetics repairs that could be done but are not necessary. Mainly a few areas with failing varnish belowdecks.
Please reach out for more detailed information on the boat, refit period and inventory.
Boat is currently in Miami. Reach out to schedule a viewing.
