Description:
One-of-a-kind electric sailboat. If this were a car, it would be considered a vintage restomod. It is a 1975 ODay 27. If you are not familiar with this boat, learn about it here: sailboatdata.com/sailboat/oday-27

This sloop has been through a 5-year reconditioning and modernization. It started out with an Atomic 4 gas engine. The engine and fuel tank were replaced with a SolidNav electric motor and 4, 170 amp-hour batteries in series to create a 48-volt system. The result is a very reliable and quiet boat to operate. It charges plugged into the dock overnight. Its range depends on how fast the boat is going, but on average, one can expect 20-25 miles on a charge.

That may not seem like much, but this is a sailboat, so the inboard motor isnt needed much. And when the boat is under sail, the spinning prop regenerates the batteries.

There is a new prop and prop shaft.

It also has a new Mercury 9.9 electric-start outboard motor with 12 gallons of gas onboard. The outboard is a useful addition. Having directional thrust makes slow, close-quarter maneuvering easier than with any inboard. And the outboard has an alternator which charges the house batteries. When there isnt enough wind, the gas outboard extends the powered range to about 75 miles.

In addition to the propulsion batteries, it has two 232 amp-hour six-volt deep cycle house batteries in series, which powers all 12-volt systems onboard. These batteries are charged by shore power with a new marine-grade charger and with the outboard alternator.

There is a 48-volt 4,000-watt inverter that supplies 110-volt power when the boat is not connected to shore power. Shore power connects to two onboard 110-volt circuits, one 15-amp and one 30-amp.

There is new wiring for the 48-volt, 12-volt, and 110-volt systems.

Equipment:
All lighting is LED, including bright lights for the head, under-counter lighting in the galley and motion-sensing lights to light the cabin when entering at night.

There are power outlets for 110 volts and 12 volts. The 12-volt outlets are both USB and cigarette lighter types.

The chart-plotter is a new Raymarine Axiom 7 and Lighthouse 4 charts using a SeaTalk and SeaTalk NG network, providing all navigation, data, autopilot, depth, and sonar using a through-hull transducer. Auto-steering is provided with a tiller-pilot and a wireless autopilot remote.

The main cabin bulkhead has a monitor that can be used as a TV with an Amazon Fire Stick.

There is a wireless network, provided by an onboard modem that connects to either the dock wi-fi or your portable hotspot.

There is a security system installed with remote alarm monitoring and video.

There is a new Horizon Eclipse GX1250X 25-watt UHF/FM Marine Transceiver. And there is a new Pioneer AM/FM/Bluetooth radio with speakers inside of the cabin and in the cockpit. And the sound from TV can be directed through this system.

There is a two-burner alcohol stove and a microwave.

The head has a new Jabsco toilet and a new holding tank. The holding tank can be emptied with a deck through-hull, or when at sea, it can be emptied overboard with a pump.

The boat has new bottom paint, new dark blue hull paint, new gray anti-skid topside paint and new white outside cabin paint. The interior floor has new paint as well. The portlights are all new.

The boat has a new pressure water system and new faucets. It has an electric water heater and 2 fresh water tanks holding a total of about 35 gallons and gauge to see how much is available.

It has a new automatic bilge pump and electronic sensing of water in the bilge with cellphone reporting of water in the bilge.

There are 2 anchors. The bow has a new West Marine fast-set anchor and bow roller. The stern has a traditional fluke anchor. Both have new chain and lines.

For the fishermen, the boat has two pole holders and a fish finder.

The stern has steps to climb into the boat.
The sail complement includes two main sails, a 129% Genoa, and a 155% Genoa with new lines, sail covers, and winch covers. The boat has two forward halyards.

All of the dock lines are new.

There are new cockpit cushions. The interior cushions show wear, and the new owner might want to recover them.

The old analog instruments are not operational.

All receipts for the restoration are available.

The boat has a recent survey and meets all Coast Guard requirements.

The boat is located on Shelter Island in San Diego and will be shown on weekends by appointment only.
