1984 Nauset Herreshoff America 18 Catboat Classic, Trailerable, Well Equipped
Offered for sale is a very attractive 1984 Herreshoff America 18, built by Nauset and located in Norwalk, Connecticut. The America 18 is a classic Halsey Herreshoff-designed catboat: traditional in appearance, roomy for her size, simple to sail, and practical to own. With fiberglass construction, a shallow-draft centerboard, broad beam, large cockpit, and straightforward gaff-rigged sail plan, she is ideal for daysailing, family use, teaching, and relaxed harbor sailing.
This is a later-build example compared with many Herreshoff America 18s on the market from the 1970s. The hull and deck are in good shape, and the brightwork/varnish was redone in 2026, giving the boat a fresh, well-cared-for appearance.
She is powered by a 2020 Honda 5 hp outboard mounted on the stern, with an external fuel tank. The Honda is reliable, efficient, and well matched to the boat for getting in and out of moorings, slips, and harbors.
Sailing equipment includes a good-quality Doyle mainsail with an American flag detail on the leech, a Doyle sail cover, and new halyards installed in 2024. Also included are a cockpit-installed bilge pump, rudder step, docking lines, and fenders.
The boat comes with a good-quality registered Load Rite trailer, adding real flexibility for storage, transport, maintenance, and launching in different locations. |
