36' Cabo Rico Tiburon

A rare, lesser-known William Crealock design. The 36 Tiburon was eventually lengthened and became the Cabo Rico 38.

Purchased in Florida in the winter of 2023 and then I spent the summer of 2024 sailing it up to the Chesapeake from New Orleans after a mini-refit. Since the end of that trip Ive been too busy to use her much.

The previous owner did an extensive 10 year refit and launched I think in 2018. He unfortunately passed away from COVID, then the boat was sold to a family friend who didnt hang onto it long before he sold it to me during the height of the post-COVID boat buying frenzy.

Solona is off-grid ready with 880w of solar and about 512 AH of lithium batteries. I can be away from the dock for weeks at a time.

Shes needs some cosmetic touch ups here and there but Im chipping away at those projects as I can (touching up paint, waxing, etc etc).

- Doyle battenless main (two reefs), mizzen (one reef), jib, genoa, and separate APC (Asymmetric Power Cruiser) sails for main and mizzen. Ive never used the APC sails at all. The Doyle set was as new (about $15k) and totally unused when I bought the boat, and they are still in very good condition. The boat also has a full backup set of main, mizzen, jib from another sail loft that are in good condition.

- New whisker pole. I never used it.

- Two new booms and boom fittings for main and mizzen from US Spars, and new standing rigging

- Two Lewmar 46 chrome 2 speed self tailing winches

- A new Beta 37.5 (now has about 520 hours). The engine had 70 hours when I bought it. Meticulously maintained with oil changes on schedule and zincs and impellers changed when needed

- Dual Racor fuel filter system

- All new electrical, pex plumbing, steering cables, and rework of the interior layout

- All new stainless steel port lights from Newfound metals

- New 225 AH AGM house batteries installed in 2020

- 65lb rocna-style spade anchor with a roll bar (forget the make but will verify once Im back at the boat), attached to 200 of 3/8 chain that looked like it was barely used when I got it, and still in good condition

- Backup 45lb CQR with 100 of rode at the bow

- All the underwater through hulls were reduced from several to just two: the raw water intake for the engine, and the drain for the cockpit. Both through hulls were new bronze and still in excellent condition. All the greywater onboard collects into a central grey water tank which is then pumped overboard via an above-waterline through hull

Upgrades/work since 2023:

- New Whale 220 grey water and 330 bilge pumps

- New jabsco pressure water pump

- Brand new PRM 125 transmission (upgraded from the stock PRM 120) last fall with about 4 hours on it, with new damper plate and flexible coupling

- Two new 440w (880w total) bifacial solar panels installed 2024 with new Victron solar charge controller

- 512 AH of lithium batteries added to the house bank. This is overkill for the boat but youll have plenty of capacity. I dont need to be connected to shore power

- Induction cooktop

- New topside paint in 2024. Total boat wet edge DIY

- Bottom paint in the summer of 2024

- Complete tear down and rebuild of the rudder using 316 stainless shaft and 316 stainless 1/4 webbing (fabricated by a reputable machine shop in New Orleans) as the inner skeleton with 16lb closed cell urethane foam as the filling. The stock Tiburon rudder is a serious weakness, and rebuilding it was a HUGE job that you wont have to worry about for a very long time
