Lake levels at my sailing club's harbor are forcing a sale. This boat is fast and points well, as you can imagine with a 6.5 foot beam. Another great feature is the fact that the deck, cabin sides, and cockpit sole are not cored. There is not any waterlogged balsa core to remove or repair. Some of the interior wood work, the fore hatch, and the hatches in the cockpit are plain but serviceable. The aft hatch is custom teak and holly, it gives you an idea of what could be done. The ballast is molded into the keel, no keel bolts to inspect or worry about! I can't say enough about the pleasure of restoring a boat that hasn't any balsa core to worry about. Sail it as is while you work on it, but it could use an appropriately sized (6 or 8 hp) outboard (15 hp is old and a tight fit in the well.) If you want to race a new set of sails will be needed as the Perf (?) number will put you among the least handicapped boats in the fleet. The bottom is in excellent condition, if you wish I can send a video showing me rubbing off most of the small white blemishes that were left after pressure washing, with my bare index finger. |
