Description:
Carillon is one of the finest hull shapes to come of the drawing board of Sparkman and Stephens. She was built at Derecktor during the second half of 1963 and launched in february 1964. Built as a sloop (and could still be converted back) she won class B of the Bermuda Race only four months later. She would have won the overall but for the smallest boat ever to win the race which came in 14 hours later.

The boat is well documented with original plans from S&S original building requirements by S&S as well as the yard construction logsfrom Derecktor. The hull is aluminium. Deck is teak and interior is Birds eye maple.

In 1967 Intrepid won the America's cup with an innovative fin and skeg keel. Carillon was adapted under supervision from S&S at Derecktor to the current configuration of a separate skeg hung rudder. This makes her very fast and avoids squirreling downwind. In 1968 the Mizzen mast was added, which involved reducing the boom length by about four feet. The mizzen and genoa make a good combination for coming in to port and other close manoevres. With new rig and keel she continued to win a series of offshore races (Halifax, Monhegan etc).

Her second owner replaced the original deck with 5/8 teak in 1974. This covers the cabin top and side decks.

Down below she was set up for cruising with 7 berths. Two in the forepeak (this could be converted to a double), four in the main salon of which two are easy to use, and one pilot berth on the port side. There is a classic galley, with large ice box, 3 burner luke heritage alcohol stove (convertible to propane) and double deep sink unit. There are plenty of store cupboards with sliding shelves.

Although she will celebrate her fifty fifth year in 2019, she can really be thought of as a 50 year old boat that has been used for only 20.

The engine is a 1988 Perkins 4.108. It has done 250 hours, runs excellent.
