Recent History & Description:
In 2012/13 Orion underwent a major refit: Big parts of the interior wood got replaced, new Corian countertops for Galley and Head gave her a more modern look. The original Perkins got replaced with a newYanmar 53HP engine (now at 700hrs) together with the new Flex-O-Fold folding Prop, Orion became a very fast boat underengine doing up to 8kts and providing acceleration like a motorboat. Also the complete electronics got replaced with the latest networked Raymarine system, please see the complete list below. In total more than $100K were spent in materials and labor hours.
We purchased Orion in March 2021. She was hauled out at Panamarina, Panama for 2 months where we completed the following: a thorough survey, 3 coats of primer, 3 coats of anti-fouling, sail, anchor chain and rigging inspection and repairs, waterproof layer on dodger and Bimini, engine and transmission servicing, changed zincs, propeller servicing, installation of additional interior fans, replaced main engine battery.
In August 2021 we hauled out in Colombia to have our first child and during this shipyard session we have replaced: Backstay, Stern tube, Cutlass bearing, shaft seal, shaft flange machine polished, installed new internet antenna on the top of the rig with router, cleaned the fuel tank and many more.
Since September 2022, we added a new blue lazy bag, new blue bimini and doger and a professionally custom made rain catcher/shader. We also replaced the house battery to Battleborn Lithium, installed a saltwater handpump in the galley, and refit the v-berth with new cabinets, reglassed the anchor locker, renforced the bow bulkhead
As liveaboard owners we are currently living on the boat and maintaining her daily.
