Description: |
Beautiful 1904 Gaff Cutter, Merrymaid An incredible opportunity to own a concourse condition classic yacht, of peerless bearing and strong sailing prowess. Her hull is constructed of carvel-planked teak on oak frames, with a teak superstructure and decks. Her immaculate and mainly original cabinetry deliver a uniquely charming finish. The yachts outstanding condition is a reflection of the works undertaken by the current owner. Rescued from a life of houseboat obscurity, MERRYMAID underwent a complete and thorough rebuild by the renowned yard Southampton Yacht Services, (Velsheda, Thendara) in 2006. All of the original elements of her hull and interior were saved, with some highly sympathetic reproduction work also carried out. Importantly, her systems and rigging were brought into the 21st century, making her a yacht capable of cruising in complete comfort and safety. Following this very successful refit, she departed on a circumnavigation with her proud owner and went on to become the first gaff cutter to navigate the North West passage. She visited many fascinating and remote corners of the earth, details of which can be made available. On returning to Europe, MERRYMAID once again visited SYS in 2010 for a cosmetic overhaul and refresh, bringing her back to perfect condition and ready for another chapter in her long and eventful life.
Now based in Palma, she is fully equipped with spare parts and ready to impress her next owner.
