38' Peter Ibold design Endurance 38

This boat, designed by Peter Ibold, was built in a Quebec shipyard. The full keel, heavy displacement hull is meant for blue water cruising. Much of what is said online about this kind of design is that when other boats turn for the harbour in rough weather, this boat can continue on. This particular boat has made multiple transatlantic crossings.
Hull is cold-molded strip planked wood with epoxy coatings both inside and outside.
There are two hydraulic helms: one in the cockpit and one in the pilot house. The foresail and mizzen can be controlled from the cockpit. The mainsail has winches on the mast. There is a cutter stay for a staysail.
I bought this boat in 2021, and just finished a two-year restoration and re-fit. I got her in the water this August, but I am moving to the city in the winter and my plans no longer have room for this dream.
The restoration work included:
- replacement of the Volvo engine with a refurnished Westerbeke 30b three (30hp, 2003) diesel engine (it was stripped down, cleaned, and a Westerbeke complete gasket and seal kit was installed). This engine runs like a dream.
- replacement of the wooden core under the bilge: new plywood core, encased in epoxy filler, then closed with layers of fiberglass; glassed-in engine mounts.
- replacement of steel stern tube with thick fiberglass tube. New Duramax Johnson brass cutless bearing. New 'dripless' packless shaft seal.
- re-planning and rewiring of the electrical system with a new distribution panel, breakers, and busses.
Prior major restoration work included a total replacement of all decking, deck beams, and pilothouse roughly 10 years ago, from what I was told at the yard I bought her from. The deck is solid. The shaft log was also replacement with a solid piece of wood of this time.
The boat is on jack-stands in a yard in Shelburne, Nova Scotia. Can be launched from the yard.

- Danforth anchor with 100ft chain rode, 200ft nylon rode.
- Spare Danforth anchor with 50ft chain rode.
