Description: |
This 24 foot sailing yacht has just been through a very exhaustive and impressive total restoration process. What was a 1987 Sovereign 24 has now been totally rebuilt from the ground up by a seasoned restoration specialist passionate about taking old, worn-out boats, trailers, houses and other things to breathe a new and celebrated life into them.
Starting with the original condition boat, every bolt, screw, nut, cable, wire, fixture, fuse, porta-potti, and piece of hardware etc was totally removed and discarded as all old paint, stickers, gelcoat etc., were removed to get down to gelcoat or original fiber where needed.
From the bare fiberglass, West Systems glass fiber was used to repair scratches, old screw holes or other anomolies that were located & corrected. There were over 200 hours of (longboard) block sanding to flatten the fiberglass hull in preparation for (2) coats of AWLGRIP epoxy-based sealers & fairing, (4) coats of AWLGRIP 545 epoxy-based primer and then (4) coats of AWLGRIP AWLCRAFT-2000 Topcoat Paint. (4) coats of AWLGRIP Hullgard Extra were used below the waterline and on the keel after they were sanded, faired and primed. Over $4,000 in sealer, primer & top coat paint materials was used to ensure a very strong foundation for the hull and keel for the future owner. There's no labor in that $4,000 number, just material.
Sovereigns Sailing Yachts were built using a hand laid fiberglassing process and the boat was built to last a lifetime. There is NOTHING "cheap" or "pending" repair on this boat. Everything, including the Tohatsu 6HP 4-Stroke auxiliary outboard is in excellent condition.
Given the extensive overhaul and updating, this Sovereign is better than the day it left the factory floor. |
