Description: |
Freshwater boat, built by J.J. Taylor & Sons, Toronto. Sailed in Lake Ontario until 2019, when my wife and I bought the Contessa and trailer it to Lake Erie. Designed in England for blue waters, the Contessa 26 is a full-keeled masthead sloop displacing 5,400 pounds that handles the sometimes stormy waters of western Lake Erie without a problem. With a draft of only 4 feet and a beam of 7.5 feet, the Contessa can be transported without a special permit. Comes with a twin-axle custom trailer. Rocinante, named after Don Quixotes horse, has been well maintained and housed indoors in winters in the four years my wife and I have owned her. Upgrades include new 120% Genoa in 2021, fully battened mainsail with three reefing points and cover in 2022 and standing rigging last year. Our Contessa certainly isn't perfect. While the deck has no soft spots, there are some spider cracks around the cockpit and some water leaks when it rains. I suspect the safety line stanchions need to be rebedded. |
