Description:
Note: Price is in Canadian dollars which is approximately $28,500 U.S. Ceilidh is located in Goderich, Ontario on Lake Huron north of Port Huron, MI.

Ceilidh (Kaylee) is a 1976 (Hull 174). She underwent a substantial rebuild in 2016 resulting in all of the new equipment described below. As you can see she has been completely re-powered with a 44 horsepower 4 cylinder diesel engine and she has all new sails and associated equipment.

With the new and sophisticated refrigeration (and improved insulation) and solar panels, the house batteries allow Ceilidh to exist independently of shorepower. There is no need to plug her in to dock electricity (there is an existing 115 volt charger installed in the locker but we do not have to use it). Solar looks after all charging. The batteries are also integrated with a Victron battery gauge and Victron 500 amp shunt that allows the operator to read incoming, outgoing and historical power use from your cellphone at any time.

Being a heavy boat she has a deep bilge and as such all diesel, toilet waste and most potable water are stored beneath the sole which results in more room for other storage and excellent stability. The fuel and water tanks are stainless steel and the waste tank is fiberglass. All input and extraction points for fluids are on deck.

Fuel Capacity
85 litres (18 Imp. Gal / 22 U.S. Gal)
Waste Capacity:
110 litres (26 Imp. Gal / 29 U.S. Gal)
Water:
150 litres (33 Imp. Gal in two tanks)

Equipment:
Sails:

Ceilidh is a masthead sloop. Her primary set of sails consist of a 135% genoa and a mainsail. Both sails were made by Boston Sails (Doyle Sails) in Sarnia, Ontario in 2019.

Genoa: Approx. 380 sq. ft.
Main: Approx. 320 sq. ft.

The genoa rides on a Selden Furlex 209S furler and the mainsail has been equipped with STRONG brand Sail Track and Slide System for high performance, low-friction mainsail luff track and and slide assembly built to handle increased loads and demands of todays full-batten mainsails. The mainsail can be raised easily and drop the instant the halyard is released (about 1.5 seconds). The system consists of the ultra low friction, durable STRONG brand track and a selection of slides and receptacles designed for smooth, long lasting operation. To facilitate the sail and track we added a Doyle Stackpack system to catch and store the sail. All of the items above are only six years old and in excellent condition.

Also included with the boat are a gennaker, a spinnaker and extendable pole. Both of these sails are in excellent condition.

Winches and Line Controls:

Ceilidh has two Harken ST46 self-tailing winches and four ST20 self-tailing winches working in conjunction with Garhauer EZ Glide genoa remotely adjustable cars on 1 inch track. These are all new as of 2020.

Mainsail Traveller:

Ceilidhs mainsail traveler is a new Garhauer MT-UB-2 over coach house unit with a 6/1 reduction. Control lines are back to cockpit.

Standing Rigging:

All of the standing rigging (wire) was replaced in 2022. Critical for mast integrity and insurance approval.

Running Rigging:

All but one piece of the running rigging has been replaced since 2017.

Engine:

When we purchased Ceilidh the Volvo IIC 2 cylinder 23 hp engine was worn out.
We could have sought out a used Volvo IIC but they are under powered for a boat of 17,000 lbs and very old technology. Not only that but any used or rebuilt engine is going to come with old accessories which are bound to cause trouble in time.

We installed a Westerbeke 44B diesel. It is a 4 cylinder unit developing 44 hp. Although the new engine came with a new transmission it necessitated replacing the old shaft, couplings, shaft seal and drive saver. In addition a new water muffler was required and extensive large diameter exhaust hose leading to the aft of the hull.

The engine was ordered with a 100 ampere alternator (most new engines come with 55 ah). Fortunately Westerbeke also added an upgrade using a Balmar alternator and Balmar external regulator. These are premium products. We also ordered it with an Admiral control panel with proper gauges. Another bonus from Westerbeke was a 4 belt pulley. The larger alternator needed two belts to drive it but the additional pulleys give future options.

1. The 44B fit into the engine bay with lots of access room on either side. A new 1 shaft (old was 7/8) was built by a firm.
