FRESHWATER GEM on Lake Michigan! Chicago / Milwaukee area. This 1986 California built Laguna 30' sloop is in amazing condition with an impeccably clean non-smoking interior near factory new; even the original neutral all matching upholstery has no tears, stains, or smells. There is no diesel odor, the 18 hp Yanmar diesel starts and runs great with very little usage and has been very well maintained. The previous owner kept this small yacht for 22 years at the same professional marina spending most of the time in its storage cradle. The mid 1980's Laguna 30 was designed to compete with the older venerable Catalina 30, both having a very similar cabin layout. There is 6' 4" headroom below and a moderate draft of 4' 0" and a beam of 10' 8". Of particular advantage in this design, there are no keel bolts. It has a one-piece hull with internal lead ballast, great for structural integrity and longevity.
This boat is a great buy asking $23,500. In 2024, the marine underwriters at Safeco Insurance had no problem with an agreed insurance value of $20,000, and that was before the current owner spent several thousand dollars on upgrades and service. Any new boats of this size are about $250,000 or more. About a $1,000 hull compound and wax will make the hull appear like new, the bottom is in very good and clean condition with no known blisters. Even the original stainless steel gimballed Origo alcohol stove and oven shines like new (a new one is about $2,200). The galley is a large secure U shape with double sinks facing towards the social salon area. This sailboat is a great design by naval architect Shad Turner. Take a really good look at the photos!
