Description:
The Slocum 37 was conceived as a capable bluewater cruising sailboat designed for the realities of offshore sailing rather than the constraints of racing rules. The inspiration for the design comes from the legendary Norwegian double-ended vessels developed by renowned naval architect Colin Archer, whose boats were built to endure the demanding conditions of the North Sea. These traditional working craft represented the pinnacle of practical seagoing designstrong, weatherly, and able to continue operating in the most challenging environments. While boatbuilding has evolved over time, the character of the open ocean remains unchanged, and the Slocum 37 reflects this timeless approach to offshore capability.

Equipment:
The interior features a practical one-cabin, one-head layout (see attached drawing) designed for comfortable cruising. The salon includes port and starboard settees, a bulkhead-mounted dinette table, and a navigation station to port. Headroom is approximately 63, and the cabin is climate controlled by 16,000 BTU reverse-cycle air conditioning with digital controls (2022). Natural light and ventilation are provided by opening hatches, two stainless steel opening ports, and two bronze opening ports. Interior cushions were replaced in 2022, and the cabin sole is finished with carpet. The forward master cabin features a Pullman berth, while the aft guest area offers a quarter berth. The head compartment is equipped with a marine composting head, sink, and shower.

The galley includes a 12V refrigerator with both top and front loading, a large sink, hot and cold pressure water, and storage cabinets. The original stove and oven have been removed and are no longer part of the vessels inventory.

Navigation electronics were upgraded in 2022 and include a Garmin multifunction display/chartplotter, Garmin wind, speed, and depth instruments, and a Garmin repeater at the navigation station. Additional equipment includes a CPT wheel pilot autopilot, ICOM M402 VHF radio, Bose audio system (2022), compass, clock, and barometer.

Electrical systems include 12V DC and 115V AC service supported by a Magnum inverter/charger and batteries installed in June 2022. The vessel is equipped with 30-amp shore power with cord and a 50-amp to dual 30-amp splitter, along with two solar panels mounted on the hardtop. Interior lighting, navigation lights, and 12V outlets are installed throughout.

The vessel is rigged as a cutter with double spreaders and Harken batt cars, featuring Dacron mainsail and genoa, a mainsail cover replaced in 2022, and Harken genoa roller furling. Winches include two Lewmar self-tailing primaries, two Barient self-tailing secondaries, and three Barient mast winches. Additional sailing equipment includes clutches, traveler, backstay, and whisker pole. Mast height is approximately 54 feet.

Deck features include a hardtop installed in 2022, extensive teak cockpit trim, a Rocna 15 anchor with rode and chain, and an electric windlass. The vessel also features custom stainless-steel davits, arch, platform, and outboard crane. The white hull with blue stripe below the cap rail complements the two-tone sand and white deck. Draft is 6 feet with a full keel, and construction consists of hand-laid fiberglass with a balsa-cored deck and Airex foam-cored hull. The bottom was painted in August 2022.

Power is provided by a Perkins 4-108 diesel engine (35 hp) with approximately 2,000 hours, driving a three-blade fixed propeller. Mechanical equipment includes Fireboy fire suppression, Webasto 16,000 BTU reverse-cycle air conditioning (2022), wheel steering, traditional stuffing box, and a 12V bilge pump with float switch. Routine service includes fuel tank cleaning (2022), impeller replacement (8/2022), and oil and transmission service (1/2023).
