Description: |
Price adjusted to reflect current market and condition - positioned for a straightforward sale. Located at Schooner Cove Marina in Stamford, CT. I have owned the boat for about 8 years and lived aboard year-round for the past 5 years. Moving to a larger trawler later this year.
Catalina 30s are one of the most popular and successful cruising sailboats ever built (over 6,400 made) and make excellent coastal cruisers and liveaboards. The large, beamy salon feels very roomy. Massive owner community, parts everywhere (CatalinaDirect, etc.).
This boat is an older cruiser that needs some ongoing projects and a haulout, but it has several valuable upgrades and is a solid platform for someone looking for a Catalina 30. Boat is floating normally with mast and all rigging up.
This boat is honestly represented. |
Equipment: |
THE ENGINE your biggest question answered
Beta Marine BD722 diesel (20hp) Serial no. 5E4731 manufactured 2005.
Hours unknown but assumed to be low (I have put less than 200 hours on it since 2018).
Fuel system recently gone through: new fuel lines new filters tank pressure-tested fresh diesel
Engine starts easily and runs well.
This is not a Universal Atomic 4 situation. Beta Marine is a Kubota-based diesel with excellent parts support from Beta Marine USA in North Carolina.
PSS dripless shaft seal installed 2016.
THE HARDWARE
Lewmar Evo 45 two-speed self-tailing winches (both) excellent condition Lewmar 30 winch Lewmar jib cars Garhauer traveler quality aftermarket upgrade over stock Harken MkIII roller furling headstay system Backstay adjuster Plow anchor with chain and rode, Danforth second anchor
THE SAILS AND RIGGING
Four sails aboard:
2010 Tasker main and jib (150%) usable, some stretch Original main and jib also aboard unused since purchase, appear to be in very good shape, buyer to evaluate
Harken lazy jacks
Standing rigging appears serviceable but age unknown budget for re-rig before any serious offshore use (priced accordingly). Running rigging aging but serviceable.
THE INTERIOR
Complete interior that has been lived aboard.
Interior woodwork is well maintained and in very good condition. Regularly cleaned and brightened with Parker & Bailey lemon oil polish.
Cabin is dry (a couple of minor leaks during extreme rain) with no mildew or mold odors.
Cushions are in very good to excellent condition, no stains but slight fading on some.
WHAT NEEDS DOING
Boat has not been hauled for several seasons. Diver has cleaned occasionally and zincs maintained, but bottom is fouled and condition unknown. Budget for haul-out and bottom work.
Various through-hull hoses and miscellaneous plumbing due for replacement at new owners discretion.
Needs two new batteries.
Cosmetic work as expected for age.
SUMMARY
The Beta diesel starts right up and the fuel system is fresh. Interior woodwork and cushions are in very good condition.
You're not buying someone's abandoned nightmare you're buying a boat that needs a haul and maybe eventually a re-rig, which is common in the used sailboat world.
Priced fairly to reflect the work remaining.
Good opportunity for someone looking for an affordable Catalina 30 cruiser with a diesel repower and upgraded deck hardware.
Stamford, CT. Easy to board and inspect from the dock.
Cash. As-is. No warranties.
Serious inquiries welcome.
