I bought Terrapin two year ago as the Perfect boat for the Chesapeake Bay, and that she is. Drafts only 18" boards up, sails in 2' of water and moves on the lightest of breeze yet can still handle the weather. Her 30' length, 13.5' beam, allows her into almost any standard marina slip. After sailing her for two years, I have come to realize she is a great weekender, or for short trips with marinas available, but she did not have the amenities for a long trip up or down the east coast.
She was in fair shape when I purchased her and has had some structural and safety upgrades since. Saturated foam in both hulls was removed. Last year, her bottom received two coats of barrier paint and two coats of bottom paint. Chain plate covers were added to prevent moister intrusion. The electrical distribution systems were rewired to marine standard, 300 ah LiFePO4 batteries installed, 2000-watt inverter added. The electrical upgrades support a 6100 BTU air conditioner/heater. Sail lockers are currently undergoing restoration. The interior was completely rebuilt and has an open plan with three full size births. There is lots of teak for classic warmth, but with a focus on keeping the boat light, she sits above her original lines. She has tons of storage, with full extension drawers throughout. A Natures Head composting toilet replaced the original toilet, so there is no below water through hulls penetration to worry about. She is an old boat and still undergoing restoration and renovations. Work continues to restore her to very good condition, but she ready to sail away as is today.
