This beautiful boat brought its current owners many years of joy, sailing the coast of Maine and the Abacos. Sadly, while on the hard she has sustained significant interior water damage when a hatch blew off in a storm. The hatch has been replaced, but significant interior woodwork is needed. She is now a project boat as she has not been launched since 2019. All major systems need review.
Here are the issues that I am aware of:
Her Perkins 4-108 engine needs work. She ran beautifully in 2019 but has not been turned over since.
Major Interior woodwork needed. As noted, rain damage has caused significant damage that I have captured in photos. The damage is in the main salon and between the galley and head. As part of my initial clean-up and assessment, I have made a list of what I believe needs doing:
Much of the sole in the main salon needs replacing. Some of the girders that support the sole need repair as well. I have captured much of this in photos.
Some of the lower parts of the benches in the main salon need repair, as shown in photos.
The most problematic damage (in my view) is directly under the main hatch (which blew off). The main ladder needs to be rebuilt. The panels separating the main ladder from the engine and from the head need major repair. (I would remove the damaged panels, replace the engine and then replace the damaged panels.). The sole and substrate need significant repair here. From my perspective, this is the most uncertain and potentially difficult part of the restoration.
The headliner in the main salon needs repair/replacement. It is fiberglass that could simply be painted but it is currently lined with a synthetic liner over thin plywood.
The electronics are dated.
The binnacle compass needs replacement as its glass dome is broken.
The standing rigging on the port side of the rear mainsail stay needs replacement. |
