Offered for sale is "Osprey" a Smith & Ruhland built Herreshoff Rozinante. Osprey is in fair sailing condition insomuch as both masts need some lamination work performed in order to be perfect.
L. Francis Herreshoff was one of the most iconic yacht designers of the past half-century. This particular design, the Rozinante, has moved into the realm of sailing mythology. L. Francis built an entire cruising philosophy around this vessel. The name derives from the name that the famous literary figure Don Quixote gave his horse. Every time he went for a ride there was great adventure and romance hence the name. L. Francis was often referred to as the Thoreau of sailing due to his emphasis on simplicity and the virtues of using the vessel as a means of communing with nature. The absence of auxiliary power plant is an example of this orientation. The Rozinante is designed to be rowed in calm conditions.
