30' Etchell Custom Onterario Yacht

Young America is a beautifully customized 1982 Ontario Etchells that combines classic performance with modern upgrades. Originally built as an Etchells racing sailboat, she has been professionally modified by Yacht Works Marina in Sister Bay, Wisconsin, making her ideal for day sailing, club racing, or comfortable single-handed cruising. She is fast, responsive, easy to handle, and unlike any typical Etchells.

The boat measures 30 feet overall, with a 22-foot waterline and 7-foot beam. It features a fiberglass hull in very good condition with no known blisters below the waterline and has been dry stored approximately six months each year. The fractional rig has been customized for easier single-handed sailing and includes roller furling, lazy jacks, a Dutchman mainsail handling system, boom vang, and relatively new running rigging.

Power comes from a 2023 Torqeedo Cruise 6.0 FP 24-volt electric inboard motor with a folding propeller, powered by a 24-volt Torqeedo lithium-ion battery. A separate 12-volt AGM battery supplies the autopilot, bilge pump, stereo, and lighting. A 175-watt solar panel charges both battery systems through dedicated converters, making the boat efficient and environmentally friendly.

Included are a custom Elliott-Pattison mainsail with four battens and loose-foot design, a custom Elliott-Pattison jib with vertical battens, a roller-furling jib, and a lightly used spinnaker with spinnaker pole. Navigation equipment includes an Autohelm ST50 Plus Tridata with repeater, Raytheon Raychart 320 chartplotter (GPS may require service), wind instruments, compass, handheld VHF radio, and owner's manuals for the onboard equipment.
