Description: |
1976 Custom Cartwright Sloop, ATHENA, cutter rig designed by Jerry Cartwright noted solo circumnavigator, reflects traditional blue-water priorities: rugged construction, reliable tracking, and practical offshore manageability. Athena has had the same owner for 42 years and was purchased in 1984 when she was only eight years old. Built in 1976, she is a purpose-built, fully insulated ferro-cement blue-water cutter designed for strength, seaworthiness, and shorthanded offshore handling. Her construction highlights fine marine plywood with Bynel-over-Bruynzeel, flush decks w/no deck crazing, stainless-steel under-deck frame with vertical supports, 35-day hull curing process reaching full strength at 40 years, & overbuilt hatches, portlights & scantlings for exceptional durability. Athenas offshore performance boasts a heavy-displacement, full-keel w/excellent tracking, stable motion, and a comfortable sea-kindly ride that reduces fatigue on long passages. Her cutter rig balances easily in typical 15 to 25-knot offshore conditions, making her well suited to single-handed sailing and windvane steering. Athenas open & spacious galley has a large island counter for food prep and entertainment. Beneath the island lives the beautiful Beta engine with full access on all sides. This classic coastal-blue water pocket cruiser is exceptionally clean and well maintained and because ATHENA is turn-key with zero major structural project debt, her value sits at a premium for an offshore sailing vessel. A unique and rare find. Clean documented title. Please email/call/text with questions or to schedule a viewing. A must see! |
