This Santana 2023-A Blue By You was designed by Steve Schock and built in 1993. Three different models of this popular water ballast boat were built. The A model was the original racer/cruiser model and had a low-profile deck. It has a 7 V berth in the bow and second double berth located under the cockpit that has very low head room - cant fully sit up. However, it is easy to sleep in this boat. Port and starboard seats form a dinette just aft of the V-berth. A rotating, adjustable height dining table is attached to the mast support below deck. The small galley includes a tiny plastic sink and waterproof hold for wet storage. The curtain enclosed head with portable toilet is amidships across from the galley sink. Due to the lower profile deck and cabin, plus the water ballast, there is not standing headroom. It has the taller mast like the R or racer model, 30 ft rather than 27 ft, and a roller furling main boom. The 152 sf Dacron mainsail and 122 sf dynema/carbon jib are in good condition. It has a 1,300 lb water ballast and center board - no keel - perfect for trailering. A new 5 hp TOHATSU outboard motor we purchased in the fall of 2017 has less than 5 hours on it. Previous owner upgrades include hull paint, cushions, porta potty, woodwork, lifelines, trailer tires, winches, clutches, all Harken bring it to excellent condition. She sails very fast, is easy to beach camp and trailers very well. The boat was demasted summer 2018 in a violent windstorm. Sails were not damaged. A new fully fitted mast was built by Ballenger Spars in Watsonville CA. They went inspected the boat and replaced everything that they thought could have been damaged by the knock down: spreaders, shroud turnbuckles, back stay, custom fabricated mast foot and deck receiver shoe, then rigged the new mast to the boat to insure everything fit correctly and rigged with the right tensions. We love this boat but are sell it because we are stepping up to a bigger boat that we can keep and sail down in the Sea of Cortez. |
