Hull speed of 6.6 kn (12.22 km/h) but with Genoa and a single-reefed main, Ive had her surfing down waves at 9.4kn.
A very sought after boat designed by Philip Harle which was quite modern for its time, in that it has a V-berth at the bow, a head/sink/shower at the (port-side rear), and a double birth (starboard-side rear). The boat is fast and comfortable boat to sail and is perfect for a solo-sailor, couple, or young family. A previous owner had Harken self-tailing winches installed on the boat near the steering-wheel, a water-heater installed, as well as Raymarine autopilot, anemometer, and depth-sounder, and the foresail has a Selden Furlex roller-furler. As one of her makers stated on a forum, the Mirages will outlive us all.
She is easily sailed single-handed, just last summer, I did so for 400nm in the thousand islands and throughout Lake Ontario with very little motoring. She has a two-burner stove/oven and good galley aboard with an outdoor bbq and pneumatic shutoff for the 2 cylinders of propane beneath the pilot seat. Though not fitted with a fridge she can power an electric cooler. |
Equipment: |
n the last year, I did a couple upgrades including a brand new Rocna 22lb anchor with 100 new rode and 5/8 chain which will give you peace of mind at anchor. I also had a safety tiller hand crafted for the boat, and I had a USB AC plud-in installed for phone charging. I also replaced both water filters for the engine last year. The motor has been impeccably maintained with oil-changes done at the beginning of each season. I do not have the hours for the motor but estimate they are at approximately 2000 and the engine appears as if it is already rebuilt. She starts and runs flawlessly every time.
Regrettably Ive only had her one year and need to sell, as I am moving to another country for work and cant bring her along. Though I am prepared to store her for a couple years, Id rather see a deserving owner keep her sailing. All equipment will come with the boat including, tools ( power included), many spares, kitchen/cooking equipment, charts/books, life jackets, cleaning materials, cradle, frame for a tarp for winter storage, extra rigging, bedding, and safety equipment. |
